Whenever St. Louis is lucky enough to get a significant snowfall, St. Louisans will cart their toboggans, sleds, and snowboards to Art Hill in Forest Park. The hill is wide enough for hundreds of sledders and steep and long enough (given the right snow conditions) for a long, thrilling ride to the bottom, with speeds fast enough that the park management places a line of snow bales at the bottom to keep sledders from flying into the grand basin. The park management also provides two large, well tended fires at the top of the hill for warming up. With spectacular views of Forest Park, decent riding speeds, lots of opportunities for community, and Saint Louis watching over all the proceedings on his horse, this is a classic St. Louis winter destination.
